Life Unlived
Pianist Chau-Yee Lo and poet Susanne Lansman consider the dreamlike nature of life not lived, exploring the use of music and poetry as an aesthetic container for traumatic experience through a selection of work by Charles Simic, Frederico Mompou, Leoš Janáček, and Susanne herself. Together they will consider the sense of time, and the expression of emotional and narrative discontinuity, asking what are the advantages and limits of each of their media?
In Common
Reading from their own and others’ poetry, Patrick Davidson Roberts and Declan Ryan explore to what extent it’s reasonable, or naïve, to assume general historic and religious awareness. How can the subject-matter of poetry draw from common knowledge, history and religion? Are allusion, inference and reference becoming more, or less, exclusive means of expression?
